Looks like a make shift latch for a metal gate.

gate latch – it still freaks me out a little that just sliding that chain into that little slot will hold the gate! But I guess without opposable thumbs – or any digits at all, for that matter – cows just can’t work it.
The Gate lach to go into the other field were the goat ban it and the turkeys! WO ho
