Photo Friday is a weekly photo challenge that offers up a theme and people post photos about that theme. I’m an intermittent participant, depending on the theme and what’s going on at the farm. This week’s theme is “the face” and my entry this week is one of pure joy from Emma on a whale watching boat in the Atlantic.

This is a bit strange that this week’s Photo Friday theme is “meditation” and exactly a year ago, that was the topic of the blog on this day. So, I guess we’ll repeat the entry, just because! So, here is last year’s entry repeated:
After Martin got his jammies on, he shouted down the stairs to us, “Can I meditate?”
We gave him the ok to go ahead and meditate, a bit puzzled. We wondered what a 6-year-old meant by “meditate.” We waited a while so he could do his thing alone. Finally, we couldn’t stand the mystery of what he meant by meditate (and he was quiet), so we sent Emma up to investigate. Here’s what she found!

This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is Fragile. Here’s a shot of some hoarfrost from earlier in the winter (not that it couldn’t have snowed today – it is supposed to tonight!).

This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is Far From Home. Here’s a shot from the furthest I’ve been from home – Japan. A photo of a Mother and Child during cherry blossom time at a Zen temple.

This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is purple. Here’s a shot from a the sheep barn at the Iowa State Fair! I call these the “Odd Couple” as one is very neat and the other doesn’t seem to think that the wood chips on the posterior are troubling.

This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Strange.” Here’s a peek from inside the Iowa State Fair Sheep barn.
Today marks the midway point between winter and spring, although it doesn’t feel that way!one year ago…
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Fresh.” Here’s a shot from the high hopes archives of milk about as fresh as you can get it!
This is one of our milk goats, Paulina.
We all know there’s more than one meaning to “fresh” so keeping that in mind, and in keeping with the goat theme, here’s another photo.
Back up to about 6 months before the milking picture for Mr. Billy getting “fresh” with his lady!

This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Stillness.” Here’s a shot of the boathouse at Kawishiwi Lodge on a still night in Northern Minnesota.

This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is “Anger.”
Here’s what the girls looked like after they had to pick all the beans in the garden!
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Girl.” It was REALLY hard to choose my favorite girl picture. I think this one shows a girl (Emma) in the middle of the golden age of girlhood, age 11.
Today was the first planning meeting for the Iowa Network for Community Agriculture (INCA) conference to be held in Marshalltown in February. I’m sure more will follow!
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Boy.” It was REALLY hard to choose my favorite boy picture. I think this one tells quite a story!
When Martin was younger he would go, go, go, until he fell asleep – on the kitchen floor, in the grass near the garden, or in a chair at lunch!
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Circle.” Here is my entry.
This is a Gaillardia from our garden photoshopped into a round shape.
Here’s what Wikipedia says about Gaillardia:
Gaillardia is a genus of drought-tolerant annual and perennial plants from the sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to North America. It was named after M. Gaillard de Charentonneau, an 18th-century French magistrate who was a patron of botany.
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Happiness is…” Here is my entry.
What’s more delightful for a three year old to “drive” dad’s tractor!
This week’s Photo Friday Contest theme is “Home.” Here is my entry.
This is a nice juxtaposition of the ruins of a Spanish church and native kiva. This is at Pecos National Monument in Northern New Mexico.
This week’s Photo Friday Challenge is “Famous.”
After I saw what my daughter had done to her chore clogs, it defined adolescence. Thanks to the folks at Photo Friday who decided to use my suggestion of “adolesence” for this week’s theme!
This week’s Photo Friday Challenge is “Famous.” Here are three of us on the Olympic medal podiums at Park City, Utah, part of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. We’re not really famous outside of our own minds!
This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is golden. This is a shot of the Zen Temple known as Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto, Japan. It dates to 1397 and now holds sacred relics of the Buddha and is covered in gold leaf. I was able to visit here on a trade mission to Japan, opening the doors to sell Wholesome Harvest organic meat to Japan.
This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is “full”. Here’s a peek at chicks just as they arrived to the farm last year.
This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is organized. Here’s a shot from a cold winter day.
This week’s Photo Friday contest theme is red. Here’s a shot of the newly sided corn crib.
