August 14, 2012 – Prez Stops by the Neighborhood
Barack was in the neighborhood today. I was at work, so missed all the excitement. He stopped at the wind farm just a few miles south of our farm.

Actually, I was a bit disappointed he didn’t stop in and check out our turbine!
One of the most short-sighted and non-sensical comments on the campaign is Romney’s assertion that he would ”allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits.” Of course, the 100 years of tax credits and subsidies for gas and oil are not on the table as Romney’s desire for a “level playing field” on energy policy does not extend to oil and gas, where he has pledged to retain up to 40 billion of subsidies and tax breaks.
40 billion for gas and oil.
0 for wind.
I wonder what he means by “level playing field?”
The only logical explanation that makes that position true is that nobody on his campaign has told him that wind turbines are a source of energy.

The oil and gas industry has always been the Republicans biggest donors, When OPEC was created and gas prices jumped in the 70′s and the oil companies were making huge profits, Jimmy Carter imposed a excise profit tax on the oil companies and set new mpg standards on new cars by a certain date, and created tax breaks for the alternative energies like wind a solar and even put a solar panel on the white house. The oil companies did all they could to make sure he didn’t get re-elected. They hurt the economy buy shutting down oil refineries for so called maintenance work and this created gas shortages, and made gas prices even higher, and created long lines at the pumps. They gave millions to Reagan and the first thing he did in office to reward them, he got rid of the new mpg standards, and did away with the tax breaks for the wind and solar industry. He even took down the solar panel on the White House. If Carters MPG standards where left in place, this country would not need one drop of Middle Eastern Oil and there would have been no reason for the Iraq war.
This country has to look for other energy alternatives, the days of cheap oil and gas are over. China is adding 10,000 new cars a day to their country. India is also expanding their middle class and are adding thousands of new cars and trucks everyday. It won’t be long before we think of 4.00 a gallon as cheap gas.
The coal, oil, and gas industry is also responsible for the funding and all the misinformation about climate change. They have billions tied up in their infrastructure and if this country enacts new environmental rules to correct the problem will hurt their profit margins big time. They are doing all they can to stop that from happening.
Also, don’t forget which party is responsible for this current mess this country is in.

Much like the time I was at a “town hall” and asked about passenger rail expansion to a congressman and his comment was that Amtrak does not even break even, so it would be a waste of money. I followed that up with a question asking him when he thought the interstate highway system would show a profit!
